LAW JOINS TRIBUTE TO DIRECTOR MINGHELLA
Actor Jude Law has joined members of the British film industry in paying tribute to the director Anthony Minghella.
The director of the Oscar-winning English Patient died suddenly a year ago at the age of 54.
This weekend has seen a "movie marathon" take place on the Isle of Wight, where Minghella was born and raised, and attracted a large number of his fans.
Law was joined by fellow actor Alan Rickman and producer Lord Puttnam in paying tribute to the director.
Law, who worked with Minghella on The Talented Mr Ripley and Cold Mountain, said at the event: "I always came out of a film having learnt something.
"With Anthony by your side you often felt you were learning something that was more than just the surface value of what this film might mean or what the character might mean.
"You often felt you had met some new people or learnt how to overcome something because it felt like a very personal experience.
"It ran a lot deeper than the parts just rubbing off or the experience of making yet another movie."
Minghella died last March when he suffered a haemorrhage, days after having surgery for cancer of the tonsils and neck.
