KNIGHT RIDER SET FOR COMEBACK

Cult TV show Knight Rider is to return, 20 years after it was cancelled.

With American television executives showing a staggering amount of invention by launching new versions of The Bionic Woman and American Gladiators, NBC has decided to jump on the remake bandwagon with a 21st century version of Knight Rider.

The show launched David Hasselhoff's career as he battled crime as Michael Knight between 1982 and 1986, helped by talking car Kitt.

NBC are planning to make a two-hour pilot, with Mr and Mrs Smith director Doug Liman at the helm and a full series to follow in 2008.

But while Kitt will receive a makeover for his purported battle against Transformers-esque "shape-shifting" cars, according to Variety, the Hoff isn't likely to return.

An insider told The Sun: "Kitt will obviously be massively updated as the kind of stunts it used to perform in the old days just wouldn't cut it today.

"Back then one of Kitt's best tricks was turbo boost – these days audiences will probably be expecting it to fly."

It is thought that ITV will again attempt to pick up the rights for the series.

"It would go really well with The Bionic Woman, which we recently picked up," an ITV source told The Sun.

The Hoff and Kitt were reunited for Knight Rider movies in 1991 and 1994.
