KINNEAR: 'I SHOULD HAVE BEEN A WAITER'

Actor GREG KINNEAR was punished by critics for switching from being a successful talk-show host to becoming a screen actor - and he insists the media would have only accepted him had he gone through the usual struggle. The AS GOOD AS IT GETS star found fame presenting US shows TALK SOUP and then LATER WITH GREG KINNEAR throughout the 1990s. And it still irritates him that he was lambasted for not working his way up in the classic wannabe actor way. He says, "A talk-show host going into acting? It's not seen as the correct starting point, is it? It seemed odd and strange for some people. "Why didn't I drive cabs first or wait on tables? It would've been far more acceptable."
