KING SHOCKED BY JESUS AND MARY CHAIN REUNION
THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN bassist PHIL KING was shocked when the band announced plans to reform last month (JAN07) - because he thought his fellow bandmates were "too busy".
The band, who split in 1998, have reunited to perform at the forthcoming Coachella music festival in California (27-29APR07), but King believed lead singer JIM REID's impending parenting duties would get in the way of a comeback.
He says, "I didn't think it was going to happen. One of the reasons is because Jim Reid's wife is about to have a baby, so we thought it would be too difficult, but it seems we're doing it now."
But King admits the band won't be taking any risks with new material - with the Scottish rockers taking their musical cues from their best of album 21 SINGLES.
He explains, "I spoke to (bandmate) WILLIAM (REID) a couple of days ago and I was asking him about it and he said, 'Oh just learn 21 Singles which is the greatest hits, so it should be just all the hits."
