KING MISTAKEN FOR VANDAL

Celebrated author STEPHEN KING was mistaken for a vandal in an Australian bookstore after signing books for fans. The horror novelist was visiting Dymocks store in Alice Springs when he was accused by a customer of vandalising property on Tuesday (14Aug07). Store manager Bev Ellis says, "As the owner of a bookshop, when you see someone writing in one of your books you get a bit toey (touchy). So we immediately ran to the books and lo-and-behold here was the signature in several books. "We sort of spun around on our heels, (saying) 'where did he go, where did he go'." Ellis says the customer purchased one of the six books signed by King.
