KIM CATTRALL CONFIRMS SEX AND THE CITY MOVIE SEQUEL

Actress Kim Cattrall has said work will begin on a sequel to the Sex and the City movie next summer.

Cattrall, who played party planner Samantha Jones in the US TV series, confirmed a follow-up is planned after Michael Patrick King's film grossed more than $391 million (£211.4 million) worldwide after its May release.

"Yes, there will be a sequel," she said while appearing on The Paul O'Grady Show, currently hosted by Melanie Brown.

"We will do the sequel next summer," the 52-year-old said.

"We wanted to [film] the first time, and now we're hopefully doing it again for the second time."

She added it was "difficult getting everybody who's so incredibly busy all together at the same time".

Cattrall was the last of the original cast - which also included Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon - to agree to starring in a film.

The movie - which reunites Cattrall with her co-stars from the influential New York show - sold more than 920,000 copies in its first week on release to become the fastest selling DVD of the year in the UK.

The comedy drama easily surpassed the previous record holder Ratatouille, which sold 700,000 in its opening week on the DVD shelves.

The first-week sales of Titanic - with 2.3 million copies sold on DVD and video within a week - remain the fastest of all time.
