KILCHER MAKES A DIFFERENCE WITH SALARY-FUNDED AWARENESS FILMS

THE NEW WORLD star Q'ORIANKA KILCHER has recently returned from a year's sabbatical in Peru, where she used her salary from her role as POCAHONTAS to make a documentary about indigenous tribes. The 18-year-old hopes to use money she makes from each one of her films to highlight awareness surrounding America's "voiceless" communities. The half-Peruvian actress, who recently received a Brower Youth Award for her conservation and preservation efforts, says, "I started acting to give voice to the voiceless." Kilcher is now planning a film about Alaska's wildlife and she'll turn cash she makes for playing Hawaii's Princess Kaiuiani into another awareness drive. And the energetic teenager is also planning an expedition up Alaska's Mount MCKinley: "I want to climb it before it melts."
