KIEFER SUTHERLAND APOLOGISES FOR HEADBUTTING INCIDENT
Kiefer Sutherland has apologised to a designer who claimed that he had been headbutted by the actor at a nightclub in New York earlier this month.
The 42-year-old was charged with misdemeanour assault over the tussle with Jack McCollough and could be punished severely by the law as he in still on probation over a drink drinking conviction in 2007 which saw him serve 48 days in jail in 2007.
In a statement to the Associated Press news agency the 24 star said: "I am sorry about what happened that night and sincerely regret that Mr McCollough was injured."
Mr McCollough said he appreciated the actor's apology and wished him well.
It is unclear whether the apology could result in the assault charge against the thespian, who is best known for playing Jack Bauer in hit series 24, being dropped.
Speaking to People magazine, LA City attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said: "We have requested the incident report from NYPD and we will assess the situation when we have all the available information."
