KELLY CLARKSON SET TO BREAK US CHART RECORD
American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson is set to break a Billboard chart record today when her new single makes the biggest-ever jump to number one.
My Life Would Suck Without You is to climb to the top spot from number 97 on the Billboard Hot 100, having sold 280,000 digital downloads in its first full week on release, according to Billboard.com.
The 26-year-old has broken the US chart record once before, when her debut single A Moment Like This - since covered by X Factor winner Leona Lewis - climbed from number 52 to the top of the charts in one week.
Clarkson's record lasted nearly five years until Maroon 5's Makes Me Wonder jumped 63 places to number one in a single week.
The record has been broken four times since then, most recently when Britney Spears' Womanizer leapt from number 96 to number one in 2008.
However, the Since You've Been Gone star now has the chart crown in her sights again, with My Life Would Suck Without You set to be Clarkson's first number one since her debut single.
Topping the charts also represents a return to form for Clarkson whose last album My December performed relatively poorly.
Her new album, All I Ever Wanted, is released in March.
