KELIS TAKES CONTROL OF IMAGE

R+B beauty KELIS has blasted female stereotypes, declaring a woman in control should not be seen as negative. The feisty singer, married to rapper NAS, leaped to international fame in 2000 with her shouty-anthem CAUGHT OUT THERE, which sees Kelis attack a cheating boyfriend in song. Kelis admits she finds it frustrating when her confidence and voicing of her strong beliefs are misconstrued as a negative trait for females. She says, "For me, saying 'I'm bossy' is a cute, tongue-in-cheek way of saying that I'm in control of my life. "Being the ideal of a strong woman means utilising all the things that God gives you. People are always saying to me, 'You're a strong female, so why are you wearing a bikini on the cover of that magazine?' Being a strong woman is misconstrued to be something evil and ugly."
