KEATON'S 'HIGH' BROADWAY PERFORMANCES
DIANE KEATON's first stage experience was a frightening one, she was drugged with a stimulant so she'd perform with more energy. Keaton cut her acting teeth in 1968 as one of the original New York cast of rock musical Hair. As it was her first acting job, the then 22-year-old didn't question the show doctor administering stimulant shots to castmembers before each performance. She says, "At the time it was astonishing to have a job. "It was odd. Before the show opened we got a shot by a doctor Bishop. I vitamin shot, only it was not vitamins. It was like methamphetamines. You were flying. A lot of people got addicted."
