KATONA WINS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGES OVER PROSTITUTE CLAIMS

British singer-turned-reality TV star KERRY KATONA has won damages against a U.K. tabloid over claims she worked as a prostitute before finding fame.
The Sunday Mirror published an article on 22 June (08) alleging that Katona's mother, Sue, had revealed all about the 27 year old's reported working girl past in a new book.
However, the newspaper's editors published an apology on Sunday (27Jul08) admitting the claim was "entirely false" and that Katona's mum had never made the revelation.
Katona was awarded substantial damages from the Sunday Mirror's publishers, MGN Limited, by London's High Court on Monday (28Jul08), although the exact amount of the five-figure sum remains undisclosed.
Katona, who rose to fame in 1999 with girlband Atomic Kitten, was not present in court for the ruling.
