KATHERINE JENKINS ADMITS REGRET OF DRUG-TAKING PAST

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins has revealed she took class A drugs, including MDMA, cocaine and ecstasy during her university studies.

The former primary school teacher, 28, said taking drugs while at London's Royal College of Music is "the biggest regret of my life" and admitted she was "very nervous" about admitting her past.

Jenkins, who is dating former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones, said she was introduced to drugs through university friends.

"We'd all been drinking and when we got back to my friend's house, I was offered cocaine by someone," she told the Daily Mail newspaper.

"Having said no so many times before, curiosity just got the better of me and I said yes. I thought it would be fun, because everyone else seemed to be having a good time after taking cocaine."

She admitted that despite not enjoying taking cocaine - the effects of which included depression and paranoia - she took the drug on a "handful" of other occasions.

And the Welsh singer also admitted to having experimented with other class A substances in her youth.

"I also tried ecstasy and MDMA, which is the powder form of ecstasy," she added. "That had a totally different effect [to cocaine], a really massive one. I took half a pill the first time, and it made me feel excited, passionate, in love with everyone and everything, and really happy, very, very happy.

"I took ecstasy pills after that four or five times, and MDMA too. But afterwards that made me feel worse than cocaine. I didn't want to live the next day, it made me feel so depressed. It was horrible, just horrible."

The soprano stressed that she stopped taking drugs after signing a six-album deal with Universal Records in 2003 and has "nothing to do with them".
