JURY SELECTION BEGINS IN GREAT WHITE TRIAL

LATEST: Jury selection began on Tuesday (05SEP06) in the trial of a nightclub owner in Rhode Island over an incident which saw pyrotechnics go awry during a GREAT WHITE show, killing 100 fans in 2003. Station nightclub owner MICHAEL DERDERIAN faces 200 counts of involuntary manslaughter - two counts for each person who died. The trial is expected to last several months and will be followed by a trial for his brother, JEFFREY. Lawyers will spend the next several weeks picking 12 jurors and four alternates from a pool of roughly 500 people. Potential jurors will been screened over the next few days and will be asked to fill out a 32-page questionnaire. Lawyers will then spend approximately a week reviewing their answers before deciding who should be dismissed.
