JURY HEARS BOY GEORGE 'ADMIT TO TRAPPING MODEL' IN POLICE INTERVIEW

The jury in Eighties pop star BOY GEORGE's false imprisonment trial has heard how the singer confessed during a police interview to handcuffing a male model at his London home.
The former Culture Club frontman, real name George O'Dowd, is accused of chaining male escort Audun Carlsen to a hook on his bedroom wall at his east London apartment after suspecting him of tampering with his computer.
O'Dowd has denied unlawfully detaining Carlsen - but on Monday (01Dec08), prosecutors played a recording of the star apparently admitting to handcuffing Carlsen during the incident.
In the police interview, played to jurors at Snaresbrook Crown Court, O'Dowd explained to cops that he suspected Carlsen had tampered with his laptop to obtain nude photos of himself from an earlier meeting between the two.
Prosecutors claim he told officers he was so angry about the alleged incident, he decided to handcuff Carlsen so he could be interrogated.
O'Dowd says on the tape, "He was so smug and was lying, saying 'It wasn't me'. I asked him to come (to my apartment) because I wanted to find out if this guy had borrowed my stuff."
The singer goes on to detail how he had invited a friend around to ensure Carlsen didn't leave "so I could check the computer and his phone".
He adds, "He struggled a bit... because he realised I wasn't messing around. I didn't tell him the reason I was doing what I was doing. I said I just wanted to check something. He was saying: 'Let me go'."
And the singer admitted in the interview that he didn't intend to do any more than question Carlsen, because killing the male escort "wouldn't have done my career any good".
O'Dowd also told the court that he did not assault Carlsen, dismissing the model's claims O'Dowd swung a chain at him as he tried to flee.
O'Dowd denies one charge of false imprisonment.
The trial continues.
