JUDGE BLOCKS AUCTION OF CASH, PERKINS + LEWIS TAPES

A judge has permanently blocked the sale of master recordings made by former Sun Records artists including JOHNNY CASH, CARL PERKINS and JERRY LEE LEWIS, it was announced on Thursday (16Aug07). The ruling was made by a federal judge in Chicago, Illinois on 23 July (07) after Sun Entertainment, which used to be Sun Records, took legal action to prevent the tapes being sold at auction in 2008. Creative Sounds was planning to sell the recordings at Chicago auction house Ocean Tomo as part of a sale of 30,000 master recordings by artists including Willie Nelson and Frank Sinatra. However, Sun Entertainment claimed ownership over the Sun Records tapes, and a judge issued a permanent injunction against Creative Sounds selling the recordings.
