JOY DIVISION HONOURED AT LONDON MUSIC AWARDS

English rockers JOY DIVISION have been honoured at London's Diesel:U:Music Awards for their contributions to the pop industry. The surviving members of the band - Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Bernard Sumner - accepted the 4Music Icon Award at the ceremony at Camden's Koko club on Wednesday night (03Oct07). Joy Division - who are the subject of the movie Control - disbanded in 1980 after frontman Ian Curtis committed suicide. The remaining trio have since gone on to form the critically acclaimed New Order. The group's record label boss, Peter Saville of Factory Records, was also praised with the Contribution To Music Award, while unsigned acts The Features, Get Shakes and Cool Kids were each recognised in the Best Rock/Indie, Best Electronic and Best Urban categories respectively. The Diesel:U:Music Awards honour the best unsigned artists of the year, with the winners voted for by a panel of celebrity judges. This year's (07) guest judges included Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx, Joy Division's Hook, and producer Butch Walker.
