JONES TO RECEIVE HALL OF FAME HITMAKER AWARD
Welsh legend TOM JONES will be the guest of honour at the 40th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony this summer (09) - where he will receive a special award in recognition of his "exceptional staying power".
The veteran crooner will be handed the Howie Richmond Hitmaker prize at the event in New York on 18 June (09).
The board stated they chose the Delilah singer due to his hugely successful career spanning five decades, praising the star's “exceptional staying power and accomplishments, along with his unique artistry."
Previous winners of the Hitmaker Award include Motown legend Diana Ross, R&B diva Whitney Houston and Latina legend Gloria Estefan.
Other inductees into the 2009 Songwriter Hall of Fame are Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora.
