JOHNSON AWAITS BROADWAY MUSICAL OFFER
Actor DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON is begging Broadway bosses to cast him in a musical - insisting his Samoan heritage means he'd be a natural on the New York stage.
The former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star has softened up his tough guy image with roles in a string of family films and comedies since embarking on a Hollywood career.
Now Johnson is eager to show off his talents on a Broadway stage, claiming he's been singing and dancing since he was a child.
He says, "I'd love to do a musical. I've been known to have a good step or two. I'm half Samoan, you know, and part of our culture is singing and dancing daily."
And the star insists his days as a wrestling champion will help him win over even the toughest critics.
He adds, "Wrestling was like stand-up comedy for me. Every night I had a live audience of 25,000 people to win over. You've got to keep your finger on the pulse of what your audience is thinking and know what they'll accept from you."
Johnson gave theatre bosses a taste of his song and dance skills during an appearance on U.S. comedy show Saturday Night Live last weekend (07Mar09), when he performed a glitzy cabaret routine poking fun at his new family-friendly image.
