JOHNNY MARR'S SINGING HOLIDAY

Johnny Marr has revealed he once ruined a family holiday by trying to finish a song he had been working on.

Johnny Marr ruined a family holiday by writing a song.

The guitarist was so preoccupied with remembering a tune he began writing at the beginning of a trip, he made everyone else "miserable" by refusing to forget about it.

He said: "I started writing a Johnny Marr and the Healers song when I went on holiday one time, I started writing it when I was checking in and then I had to remember it for two weeks while I was away.

"I had a really dreadful holiday, every day I was trying to remember this song and made life miserable for everyone I was with. I had to wait until I got back to put it down."

However, when Johnny was finally able to compose the song properly, he ended up disappointed.

He explained: "We came back and I got out of the taxi, rushed into the house and got a guitar and I played it straight away... and it was absolutely awful."

Johnny - who is currently a member of The Cribs, having previously been in The Smiths, Modest Mouse and Electronic - admits he often writes new music in unusual places.

He said: "I've written a couple of songs on airplanes, I wrote a song in the doctors waiting room once - it was a Smiths song, the music for 'Stretch Out and Wait' - luckily for me I've got a pretty good memory for chords."
