JOHNNY MARR DENIES FEUD

Johnny Marr insists he and former Smiths bandmate Morrissey are no longer feuding, sparking speculation they are set to reunite.

Johnny Marr has fuelled rumours The Smiths are to reunite after revealing he is communicating with Morrissey.

The guitarist left the iconic band in 1987 due to tensions with the singer but insists their feud has long since ended.

He said: "It's not necessarily the case that we're not talking. We have email. We worked on that 'Sound of the Smiths' compilation together. That came out about a year ago.

"Who's got time for a feud? Right now I have got screwdrivers inside guitars, my car broke down yesterday... I've got no time for a feud."

However, the rocker - who is now a member of The Cribs - admits he is unsure whether a reunion tour would fulfill his creative desires.

He added to the Norwich Evening News website: "I like The Smiths songs, but I like playing with two guitars and writing new songs. Unfortunately a reunion would go against both those things."

Earlier this year, Morrissey admitted he didn't understand why people wanted The Smiths to reform for a series of concerts, because they rarely performed live at the height of their success.

He said: "It confuses me I don't know why people go on about it, wanting something that isn't there.

"The Smiths didn't tour that much really, not worldwide. But it was of its time. The songs are very strong so that make me everlasting.

"The offer reports are very impressive but it's simply another time and it isn't now, it's just not my life now."
