JOHN SQUIRE AXES MUSIC

John Squire insists he has no more plans to make music, instead focussing on his art work.

John Squire will not return to music.

The former Stone Roses star insists that his 2004 solo album 'Marshall's House' - a concept album about realist painter Edward Hopper - was his final work as he wants to continue in his career as an artist.

He said: "That wasn't intended as a finale, but in retrospect I think that might have been a turning point.

"I didn't decide to stop doing one thing and start doing another, it just seemed to happen organically. Initially painting became more important, more interesting, more challenging, and gradually took over."

The musician says he believes pursuing the visual arts gives him more freedom, even if he has a smaller fan base.

He explained to the BBC: "In this world, you can do anything you want. And it's more open to interpretation than a pop song. It can mean more things - maybe to a smaller audience, but I think ambiguity is the key."
