JOHN PEEL PLAY TO DEBUT AT EDINBURGH FESTIVAL
Legendary British DJ JOHN PEEL's life has inspired a new play, set to premiere at this year's (07) prestigious Edinburgh Festival.
The drama, called Teenage Kicks after Peel's favourite song by the Undertones, was written by Paul Hodson. It charts the late broadcaster's transformation from "a well-spoken idealistic hippy into a down-to-earth DJ".
Kieron Forsyth, who will play Peel, reveals he's been pouring over archive footage and tapes since landing the part in a bid to do the music giant justice.
He says, "This is a big one. Peel is an icon. It's a bit terrifying."
Peel died from a heart attack in 2004 while holidaying in Peru. He was 65.
