JOHN MAYER'S VULGAR LP

John Mayer says he was attracted by the ''vulgar, violent'' theme of war when writing his new album 'Battle Studies'.

John Mayer loved the "vulgar" theme of his new album.

The 'Gravity' singer admits he hadn't intended for his forthcoming LP 'Battle Studies' to be a concept album, but found himself increasingly attracted to the topic of war as he carried on writing.

He told Rolling Stone magazine: "I was loving the war theme, the battle theme. The militaristic, vulgar, violent side of a relationship on the down slope. The record starts out sort of like the sun is out, then it gets darker. And then the sun comes back out at the end.

"The album is the next step in the story of who I am."

The first single from the album is entitled 'Who Says' and John recently laughed off reports the song - which opens with the lyric 'Who says you can't get stoned?' - is about drug taking.

He said: "It's about being in control of the pleasure in your life."
