JAY-Z PLANS CHARITY TRIP

LATEST: Hip-hop star JAY-Z is planning to travel to some of the driest developing nations in the world to raise awareness about the planet's water crisis. The rap mogul met United Nations Secretary General KOFI ANNAN at a press conference to announce their new project at the UN Headquarters in New York City on Wednesday (09AUG06). Jay-Z, real name SHAWN CARTER, said, "Every 15 seconds a child dies from not having access to clean water. I want people to know that while they're having their Poland Spring at Cipriani (New York restaurant)." The 99 PROBLEMS hitmaker is planning to visit several developing nations for the project and document his travels for an MTV special, entitled DIARY OF JAY-Z: WATER FOR LIFE. He explained, "My thing is to make the information available to everyone and make them aware of the problem. I've never been to Africa, but I think that'll be the most important part of the trip for me."
