JARVIS TO LECTURE ON LYRICS
JARVIS COCKER has been added to the bill of forthcoming Manchester event In The City on October 7th.
The former PULP frontman will deliver a lecture entitled Saying The Unsayable, which will focus on the function of lyrics in popular songs.
Among the artists whose work will be explored are Leonard Cohen, Pete Doherty, Hot Chocolate, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Neil Sedaka, Dory Previn, Katerine, Rozalla and Arctic Monkeys.
Cocker will cover a range of subjects such as 'Should Songs Rhyme?', 'Are Songs Poetry?', 'Is There Anything You Can't Write Songs About?', 'Which Phrases Should be Avoided at All Costs?' and 'Great First Lines'.
Other names set to speak at the vent include former ROLLING STONES manager Andrew Loog Oldham and Sire Records founder Seymour Stein.
Co-founder Yvette Livesey says, "We have a really heavyweight list. There are probably about 20 keynote speakers amongst the panelists and the nighttime is looking really good with fantastic club nights."
It was recently reported that Cocker will play a UK tour in November to celebrate indie record label Rough Trade's 30th anniversary.
