JARVIS SLAMS TV TALENT SHOWS
Former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker clearly doesn't want to be one of the common people when it comes to TV talent shows.
The 43-year-old star told the Radio Times magazine that the voices of celebrity wannabes who appeared on shows such as the X Factor and Pop Idol had "zero personality".
Lamenting that pop music had become "industrialised" the singer claimed that judges "never pick people with great voices".
"A great voice expresses something and gives you some idea of the personality behind the voice. There's zero personality in the voices of any of the people who sing on these shows," said Sheffield-born Cocker.
"It saddens me because I love pop music and these shows prove that it's become an industrialised process."
"The kind of pop I was brought up on is over," he added mournfully.
Meanwhile Jarvis, who recently released his first solo album – the self-titled Jarvis – said he regretted the level of publicity he had attracted following his infamous disruption of Michael Jackson's performance at the Brit awards in 1996.
"I would rather people remember me for what I create," said Cocker, commenting on the stage invasion he carried out in protest at Jackson's 'Christ-like' routine.
