ISLAM WANTS TO BE A BRIDGE BETWEEN ISLAM AND WEST

Singer and Islam-convert YUSUF ISLAM decide to return from musical retirement so he could become a "bridge" between the Western and Muslim worlds. The 59-year-old changed his name from CAT STEVENS and began practicing Islam 30 years ago. He admits he recently released his first album in 28 years so he could share his unique knowledge of the two worlds. Speaking ahead of a performance in Oslo, Norway today (11DEC06) to honour the Nobel Peace Prize, Islam reveals, "It is because of that in a way that I come back to sing again. "Because I am in a unique position, as a looking glass perhaps, through which the West can see Islam and Muslims can see the West."
