ISLAM ACCUSES COLDPLAY OF COPYING HIS SONG
Veteran singer YUSUF ISLAM has become the second musician to accuse COLDPLAY of stealing the melody used in their hit track VIVA LA VIDA.
The star - formerly known as Cat Stevens - claims the British rockers have taken elements of his epic 18 minute song Foreigner Suite, which was released in 1973, and incorporated them into their 2008 single.
The Yellow hitmakers are currently battling guitarist Joe Satriani over the tune. The star has taken the band to court in Los Angeles accusing them of copying segments from his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly.
But Islam is convinced Coldplay were also influenced by his work.
He tells British newspaper The Sun, "There’s been this argument about Coldplay stealing this melody from Joe Satriani, but if you listen to it, it’s mine! It’s the Foreigner Suite, it is!”
Coldplay have denied Satriani's plagiarism accusations, insisting they thought up the tune themselves.
