Indian movie superstars ABHISHEK BACHCHAN and AISHWARYA RAI have confirmed their engagement after months of speculation about their relationship. Bachchan and former Miss World Rai sealed their engagement at a private ceremony on Sunday evening (15JAN07) - one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar - and Abhishek is said to have placed a diamond ring on his girlfriend's finger. Legendary actor and father of the groom-to-be, AMITABH BACHCHAN, told reporters, "No date for marriage has been fixed yet," adding that his son had proposed to Rai in New York last week after the premiere of their latest film GURU. Confirmation of the engagement comes after months of rumours the pair's relationship was more than platonic. Suspicion was fuelled when their families visited several temples over the past few months to pray for them - a common occurrence for when Indians plan to marry.
