IDLE: 'BEATLES APPROVED RUTLES'
Comedian ERIC IDLE's BEATLES spoof THE RUTLES was approved by all of the Fab Four when it was released in 1978. Idle had no idea how The Beatles - GEORGE HARRISON, PAUL MCCARTNEY, JOHN LENNON and RINGO STARR - would react. Idle says, "The first time I played George the music, he started to sing, 'Instant Karma's gonna get you!' in a very loud voice. "Ringo told he liked The Rutles but Paul only seemed to approve when he learned that I had grown up in Wallasey, near (Beatles hometown) Liverpool. "I heard John and Yoko adored it, which I thought was sporting of them as Yoko is portrayed as HITLER's daughter." Lennon was shot dead in 1980 and Harrison passed away in 2001.
