SIMPLY RED singer MICK HUCKNALL has the answer to the U.K.'s youth crime explosion - tough-love parenting.
The Stars hitmaker has blasted mums and dads who try to be "best mates" with their children, insisting guidance and reasonable discipline are needed to keep kids from going off the rails.
Hucknall, who has a 19 month old daughter Romy, says, "I would like to see the end of this God-awful state of affairs with too many parents wanting to be their child's best mate - 'I go out drinking with my son' or 'I go out pulling men with my daughter'. That is doing incredible damage.
"Parents should be giving guidance to their kids about who they will be when they grow up. That doesn't mean disciplining them all the time but it does mean that you have to explain the realities of life."
