HETFIELD REACHES OUT TO FORMER BANDMATE NEWSTED

METALLICA frontman JAMES HETFIELD wants to end his rift with the band's former bassist JASON NEWSTED, and has invited his former pal to rejoin the group if they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year (09).
The Enter Sandman rockers have been nominated for entry in 2009 - and Hetfield wants to use the opportunity to bring together every musician who has appeared on a Metallica album.
He extends the invitation particularly to Newsted, who left Metallica in 2001 after falling out with the band's singer.
Hetfield says, "Everyone that played on a record should be there. You're considered for the Hall 25 years after your first recording, not after you formed."
"Jason Newsted should be up there - he was in the band for 14 years and played on quite a few records. And so should Robert (Trujillo)."
Successful nominees - who are only eligible 25 years after the release of their first album - will find out their fate later this month (Nov08).
