HERZOG'S BULLET WOUND HURTS WHEN HE LAUGHS

Filmmaker WERNER HERZOG begged the presenters of U.S. TV movie show Sunday Morning Shootout to stop making jokes - because the injury he sustained in 2006 when a sniper shot him hurts when he laughs. The 64-year-old was chatting with BBC journalist Mark Kermode in Los Angeles in February 2006 when an unknown assailant opened fire with an air rifle. At the time, an astonished Kermode said, "Herzog, as if it was the most normal thing in the world, said, 'Oh, someone is shooting at us. We must go.' He had a bruise the size of a snooker ball, with a hole in it." But during an interview on American television on Sunday (08Jul07), Herzog admitted his bizarre injury still causes him discomfort. He said, "If I laugh very hard, it still smarts. Don't make me laugh."
