HEPBURN STAMP SELLS FOR MORE THAN DOUBLE RESERVE BID

A rare stamp bearing the image of AUDREY HEPBURN smoking has gone under the hammer for an astounding $93,800 (£62,530) at an auction in Germany.
The stamp is one of only five in existence, after the tragic movie icon's son, Sean Ferrer, ordered the entire print run to be destroyed in 2001 following its commission by the German government.
Ferrer objected to the photo of his late mother being used for the stamp and refused to grant copyright because it showed her with a cigarette holder dangling from her lips.
All but a handful were salvaged from destruction - and one stamp fetched more than double its reserve bid of $41,959 (£27,972) when it went on sale on Tuesday (26May09). The buyer's identity remains anonymous.
The Breakfast at Tiffany's star lost her battle with colon cancer in 1993 at the age of 64.
