HENDRIX FAMILY THREATEN LEGAL ACTION

The family of late rock legend JIMI HENDRIX are disputing the multi-million dollar sale of some of his biggest hits, claiming they are the rightful owner of the songs' title and rights. A string of Hendrix favourites including PURPLE HAZE and VOODOO CHILE were auctioned in New York yesterday (26OCT06) as part of the estate of Hendrix manager MICHAEL JEFFERY, who died in 1973. However, a spokesman for the Seattle, Washington-based Experience Hendrix company, which is owned by the guitarist's family, insists they'll fight the $15 million (GBP7.9 million) sale in court if necessary. BOB MERLIS says, "Whoever bought this bought themselves the right to be a litigant. "It will be contested instantly." Hendrix died in London in 1970, aged 27.
