HEATH LEDGER HONOURED WITH POSTHUMOUS OSCAR
The late Heath Ledger has been awarded a posthumous Oscar for his work in The Dark Knight.
The Australian actor, a best actor Oscar nominee before his tragic death in January 2008, was named best supporting actor for his outstanding performance as The Joker in the Batman Begins sequel.
Ledger's father, mother and sister accepted the award on his behalf, dedicating the win to the late Brokeback Mountain star's young daughter Matilda.
Ledger becomes only the second person ever to win a posthumous Academy award, following Peter Finch.
Also nominated was Robert Downey Jr, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin.
