HAWKINS AIMS FOR EUROVISION

Former THE DARKNESS frontman JUSTIN HAWKINS is one of six acts competing to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest later this year (07). Hawkins, who quit the British rockers last year (06) after checking into rehab to quit his cocaine habit, will join forces with singer BEVERLEI BROWN next month (APR07) in a televised face-off in which TV viewers vote for who they want to represent the UK in the critically-panned contest. He says, "I had a dream that I should do it. I think I'd got to the vote and then I woke up. "When you've enjoyed a long break it's nice to hit back with something that is as big and as glamorous as they come. "It's my new ambition. Eurovision is something I've always wanted to do." Other acts vying to represent the UK include former EAST 17 singer BRIAN HARVEY, ex-ATOMIC KITTEN LIZ MCCLARNON and rap collective BIG BROVAZ. Last month (FEB07), MORRISSEY confirmed he had withdrawn from negotiations to write the UK Eurovision entry.
