HANKS RETURNS TO D-DAY SITE FOR TV DOCUMENTARY

Hollywood history buff TOM HANKS is to revisit the D-Day landings in a new TV documentary, in which he interviews the surviving veterans of the 1944 World War Two battle.
The Saving Private Ryan star joined the veterans of America's Easy Company as they returned to Normandy, France for the 65th anniversary of the beach battle that many feel sparked the beginning of the end of the second world war over the weekend (06-07Jun09).
Hanks took a HBO film crew with him for the journey and chronicled the historic occasion, which was attended by world leaders and dignitaries.
The Oscar winner interviewed eight surviving members of Easy Company on a train ride from Paris to the memorial site and even sat down with U.S. President Barack Obama for a chat about the war and the heroes who fought in it.
