HALLYDAY'S BELGIUM HOPES DASHED
LATEST: French rocker JOHNNY HALLYDAY has had his dreams of Belgian citizenship dashed, after being told by Belgian officials he doesn't qualify for residency. Hallyday stunned fans earlier this year (06) when he said he wanted to return to his "Belgian roots", but the singer was told he was not eligible for naturalisation because his principal residence was not in Belgium, nor did he own property in the country. Hallyday, whose Belgian father had a brief affair with the singer's mother during World War II, had applied for citizenship because he is opening a restaurant in Brussels.
