HALLYDAY SCRAPS REUNION GIG
French rocker JOHNNY HALLYDAY has cancelled a concert on Reunion island due to the rapid spread of swine flu across the Indian Ocean territory.
The veteran musician was due to play in Saint Denis de la Reunion, the capital city of the French island, on 20 September (09) but he has scrapped the gig over rising fears about the deadly A(H1N1) virus.
Two people have died from the disease and another 49,700 people have been infected.
The 66-year-old singer's representatives claim his insurance policy will not cover him to play on the island where there is such high levels of the flu.
A statement reads, "Based on data and recommendations from French and international health authorities, the production team decided not to expose the artists and technical team to risks linked to the A(H1N1) flu."
Hallyday was hospitalised for nine days last month (Aug09) for medical check-ups at his insurers' request, after a fall on a yacht in July (09).
