HALLOWEEN CARVES ITSELF A PLACE IN THE HISTORY BOOKS

Director ROB ZOMBIE's HALLOWEEN remake has slashed the U.S. box-office record for a new release during America's Labor Day holiday weekend (31Aug-03Sep07). The update of John Carpenter's seminal 1978 movie had hauled in $26.5 million (GBP13.25 million) by Sunday (02Sep07), knocking comedy Superbad off the top spot and down to number two with $12.2 million (GBP6.1 million). Ping-pong comedy Balls Of Fury is a new entry at three with $11.6 million (GBP5.8 million), while Kevin Bacon's vigilante movie Death Sentence debuts at number eight with $4.2 million (GBP2.1 million).
