HALLIWELL LAUNCHES NEPAL CAMPAIGN
Former SPICE GIRLS star GERI HALLIWELL has launched a campaign to help women in Nepal.
The singer has been in the country since Sunday (06Sep09) and is using the trip to visit female citizens in the south-west of the country and raise awareness of the gender-based violence facing women there.
Halliwell, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund, has launched a campaign to promote maternal health care and women's rights, and recently met with the country's Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to secure his support.
The star told reporters in the region, "When we empower women and take care of them, everyone benefits."
She also spoke about the dangers of domestic abuse and a lack of medical care for pregnant women.
