GUMP SEQUEL PLANNED

FORREST GUMP is set to return to the big screen, 13 years after TOM HANKS turned the unlikely hero into a movie sensation. Hanks, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of the slow-witted Gump, is considering a return for the sequel, while co-star GARY SINISE has reportedly shown interest in reprising his character, LIEUTENANT DAN. According to website CinemaBlend.com, celebrated screenwriter ERIC ROTH's 2001 Gump sequel screenplay is being tweaked by producers STEVE TISCH and WENDY FINERMAN, after they settled an ongoing rights battle with Gump creator, novelist WINSTON GROOM. Roth's sequel script is reportedly based on Groom's Forrest Gump follow-up, GUMP + CO. In one of the new movie's most incredible scenes, Gump actually meets the real Tom Hanks, as he finds himself rubbing shoulders with the rich and powerful while attempting to expand his shrimping business.
