GRIFFIN SUES WEBSITE

Comedian KATHY GRIFFIN is suing a website for $100,000 (GBP55,000) over claims they made money from her name and image.
The star filed a claim against the owners of KathyGriffin.com at Los Angeles' Superior Court on 16 September (08).
She says she was contacted by the owners of the site in July (08) offering it for sale for $3,500 (GBP1,940).
The lawsuit states, "The harm to plaintiff is direct and palpable. When consumers encounter defendants' unauthorised website, they are likely to be confused into believing that plaintiff authorises, sponsors or somehow is affiliated with the domain name, the defendants and with their website, which is not the case.
"Defendants are also trading on plaintiff's good reputation and recognisable name for a commercial purpose, converting the potential economic value in plaintiff's identity to their advantage and reaping the uncompensated benefit from the unauthorized use of plaintiff's name and identity."
