GRIEVING WELLER TURNS DOWN AWARD
PAUL WELLER refused to accept a lifetime achievement award at the U.K.'s Ivor Novello Awards because he is still mourning the loss of his father.
The Jam star was due to receive the prestigious honour at this year's (09) ceremony, which took place in London on Thursday (21May09).
But he told organisers he couldn't bring himself to accept the prize - because he is still grieving for his dad, John, who died last month (Apr09).
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Paul and John had an exceptionally close relationship. John went on the road with The Jam when Paul was just 17 and was his manager throughout his career.
"Every night they drank together, they were best mates as well as father and son so it's hit Paul double hard."
