GREED GOOD FOR OLIVER STONE IN WALL STREET RETURN

Oliver Stone will direct Michael Douglas in a sequel to 80s hit Wall Street, it has been announced.

The 1987 original, which saw Douglas as Machiavellian stock trader Gordon Gekko, told of unscrupulous money-making methods in New York's financial district.

Douglas won a best actor performance for his iconic turn as Gekko and now is to reprise the role for a sequel set to begin production this summer, Variety reports.

Transformers star Shia LaBeouf is also in negotiations to star alongside Douglas as a young Wall Street trader and Stone has confirmed his decision to direct his first ever direct sequel.

The drama is expected to mirror the current global economic meltdown and tell of a young trader embroiled in a financial collapse sowed by corporate avarice.

While Douglas created landmark 80s slogans as Gekko with proclamations such as "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good," and "Lunch? Are you joking? Lunch is for wimps", the Wall Street sequel will see the trader coming to terms with the dangers of a market spurred by greed.

Douglas can next be seen in romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past while LaBeouf reprises his role as Sam Witwicky in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.
