GOUGH: 'MY LYRICS UPSET MY GIRLFRIEND'
BADLY DRAWN BOY star DAMON GOUGH can't help writing lyrics that upset his girlfriend, even if they're not written about her. Gough tends to write songs about his relationships with band members or his record company, but his girlfriend CLARE HEWITT often presumes they're about her relationship with the musician. He says, "Claire found some words on the last album upsetting because she presumed the negative content was about us, though it was about issues with other relationships like with band members or the record label, where I was put in positions where I felt I'd let other people down. "It is tricky but I can't get away from these themes. They are the language that is available to the melodies I write, and what comes through my spirit."
