GORE URGES PARTICIPATION IN BRAZIL LIVE EARTH

Al Gore has called for Brazilians to participate in their country's Live Earth event on July 7th.

The free show in Rio de Janeiro was confirmed as part of the global event calendar scheduled to raise awareness of climate change.

Mr Gore has led the way in organising and promoting a series of concerts which begin in Sydney and include shows in London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, New Jersey and Hamburg.

Brazil's concert is the only one in the world which is entirely free and open to the public and the producers of the Live Earth shows hope to reproduce the kind of Copacabana beach scene which the Rolling Stones put on earlier this year.

The Live Earth event in Rio is expected to be the largest show in the series and will be broadcast live on TV and on the internet.

The former US vice president said: "By engaging individuals all over the world, Live Earth will drive corporations and governments to tackle the climate crisis as well.

"The climate crisis is a global problem. Live Earth is a global response."

Kevin Wall, who acted as producer for the Live 8 concerts in 2005, said that music could act as the "international language" to show a global opinion for action on climate change.

"Live Earth’s 24 hours of music spanning all seven continents will move people in every corner of the planet to take action against global warming," he said.

All artists for every date in the series will be confirmed soon and it is expected that major acts from each host country will play at their home shows.
