GLOVER DEFENDS CRUSADING STARS

Campaigning actor DANNY GLOVER has leaped to the defence of stars who lend their fame to humanitarian causes, insisting it's time to stop the scepticism. The LETHAL WEAPON star and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program is disgusted by the negative press celebrities can attract when they ditch films to concentrate on matters closer to their conscience - most recently MADONNA's adoption of Malawian baby DAVID BANDA. Speaking at the London launch of his new movie BAMAKO last night (12FEB07) he said, "It's important to separate people from what they do as a person and as part of an institution. Take ANGELINA JOLIE for example, she's a successful actress but when she's doing charity work she does it within the framework of the United Nations, as a representative for them, not as a superstar. "People should appreciate these efforts." Bamako is based around a trial in an African courtroom of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund's efforts to aid developing countries.
